PC Power & Cooling have been making solid single 12v rail PSUs for a long time now, and it’s given them chance to get really good at it. The 910W Silencer we tested today did pretty well with all the load we could throw at it. With PCP&C power supplies you are paying for quality components and build, unfortunately this means you will pay a premium over other generic PSUs, but when you consider that if your PSU blows it can take out everything it is connected to as well, surely it’s worth paying for that peace of mind. The Silencer 910W can be found for around £150 at the time of writing. PC Power and cooling have the brand reputation for a reason. They make top quality power supplies again and again time after time. The silencer 910W is no exception, and gives great performance. My editor informed me that PC Power and Cooling are his number 1 choice of PSU, he also told me that he used a Silencer 750W to power a modded rig that caused most other manufacturers 800W PSU’s to cut out, which is a testimant to the quality of PCP&C’s power supplies! In use the PSU is fairly quiet, but its 80mm fan is still louder than a fair few 120mm unit’s I’ve used before. So if silence is what you are after, then you need to look elsewhere. I’m also glad to see that PCP&C have used a bit more braid on this PSU which makes it look a lot cleaner on the end of the cable runs. Now if they’d only stick to one colour of plastic connector ;-) This PSU gets our recommended award:
Pros - Fairly Quiet Operation
- Steady voltage rails
- Single 12v rail so Amps aren’t wasted (vs multi rail)
- Plenty of connectors
- Cool running
Cons - Would like to see longer 8pin 12v aux cable
- 80mm fan
Reality Check: Another great PSU from PCP&C, unfortunately it’s not silent as its name implies, but it can’t be faulted on performance. Reviewed by Dan Thanks to PC Power and Cooling for supplying the PSU for review
