Sapphire 8inch Physical Layout

Sapphire have designed there digital frame to be really different from many other frames on the market, the 8inch TFT LCD display has been surrounded with a smoked effect acrylic frame that is transparent in different light setting and is extremely reflective. Within the acrylic frame they have added an interchangeable PCS colour frame that you can change when ever you want, too suit your mood or images on the frame. Similar design to the Ceiva frame but Sapphire have supplied five different colour to choose from which Im sure would suit most home or office space.

Although the acrylic frame itself looks nice and is extremely modern, the material used isnt the most practical Ive seen on a frame because it becomes a dust and finger print magnet, as well as a scratch haven when cleaning the frame if you dont use the right cloth. But the design of the frame is sleek and aesthetic and would make a nice feature to any home or work space.

Flipping the frame to the rear view, notice how Sapphire have integrated not only a desk stand unit, but also you can remove that and hang the frame to a wall either in landscape or portrait view. This is the first frame to have this feature out of all the frames in this round up and I think it is a brilliant function to include as not everyone wants to have an 8inch frame sitting on there desk or table when it would also look really nice hanging from a wall. The only down side to this feature would be the wiring running down from the unit at the base.

In the middle of the frame is where you would attach the Desk stand which is adjustable to what height you want the frame to sit, again either in landscape or portrait view. Also notice to the rear the small stereo speakers positioned at the top of the frame which have been placed under the backing plastic for added protection.

As you can see Sapphire have designed the desk stand with an adjustable screw and a long cut out section which you can position you want ever suits you and your surroundings. They have also integrated into this desk stand a handy Remote Controller Holder, which allows you to keep the remote with the frame.

Running along the top of the frame are all of the control buttons for the frame and they are from the far right; Power on/off, Menu, Enter, Right, Left, Down and Up. These buttons have been covered in a silver effect plastic coating which matches the silver interchangeable frame that is on the frame at the moment, but these buttons are out of view as the smoked effect acrylic frame hides them to some extent.

Sapphire has included all these buttons and more to the remote control for the unit which include; Rotate, Zoom, Volume buttons and also the playback function buttons.

Turning the frame to the right view is where Sapphire have placed the; Audio out, USB 2.0 device and USB 2.0 host ports. The Audio out port can be connected to earphones or amplifier so you can enjoy music playback or MPEG video discretely or for all you friends and family to enjoy.

The USB host port is for Pen and storage drives only, but its again nice to have the choice of having this feature on the frame. All the other frames so far in this round up dont have this feature but that maybe down to the fact that they are a lot smaller then the Sapphire frame or those come with built-in memory.

Finally bring the frame to the left hand side view we have the card slot ports and they are; CF I/CF II Slot and 3 in 1 card slot for SD/xD/MS and MMC. These slots have a sliding in and out design but I did have some trouble removing my SD cards from the slots, they where held really securely in place, rest assured that they wont fall out when the frame is positioned in portrait view.

Moving on to the fifth photo frame in this round up and that is the 8inch ABIT Magic DPF Printer Digital Photo Frame.
