I did once say that you can't really make a huge review on a case fan, but over the past few years the modding industry seems to have noticed that however quiet your PSU is, and however well your CPU fan performs at 7 volts, the case fans you have keeping the air flowing through your box have a huge impact on cooling and noise levels. A perfectly quiet computer can be ruined by skimping on the fans. I did argue that a decent fan controller will solve this problem anyway, but then by the time you've slowed down a fan enough to silence it, it's not shifting much air anymore. So like many other modders, we're going to the source by testing another 'silent' fan today. The Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000 is an 80mm fan with a difference. I've not personally heard of Sharkoon until now, so I'll give you a brief history lesson before we get started. Originally a German company, Sharkoon are new to the industry, but have entered the market armed with case fans, chassis, lighting products, low noise products, peripheral devices... pretty much every after-market product you can have short of motherboards and other core components. In their effort to bring something new and innovative to the market, Sharkoon have created a fan that utilizes an old, but unnoticed notion used in Golf of all things. The Silent Eagle has unique blades that have the same surface texture as a golf ball. We're going to find out if it really works like the golf ball or if it doesn't have the balls to be a silent fan.
