Toshiba Store Steel 320GB Portable Hard Drive

Posted by: Mac on: 28.06.2010 01:00:00 [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

The Toshiba is a nice convenient ready to go hard drive caddy that pretty much anyone I’d can pick up, plug in and use straight away. It seems to retail at approx £55 for the 320GB version I have here which is a very good price when you consider a 320GB 2.5” hard drive costs around £40, so for £10 you get a nice looking stainless steel caddy with leather pouch and the hard drive fitted, formatted and ready to go, which is a bargain in my opinion as you will be hard pushed to find a decent caddy for £10.

Performance wise the Store Steel is on par with the other caddies I have tested as you would expect. With it being connected via USB it is the throughput of the USB which limits the transfer speeds.

I was concerned that it might drop out like other unpowered laptop drive caddies I have had but not once during the testing did it falter.

I cannot fault the Toshiba Store Steel 320GB. It accomplishes everything it sets out to do so and does it in style. From the mirror finish of the caddy to the leather pouch everything oozes style and class. In my opinion it wouldn’t look out of place connected up to a high flying business man’s laptop in some high power meeting.

If you are looking for a nice small laptop drive caddy, and need to buy a laptop drive to go with it then save yourself the time and trouble of fitting it, this is the thing you need.

Pros.

  • Looks great
  • Decent performance
  • Comes complete with stylish protective leather pouch
  • Excellent price

Cons

  • None what so ever

Reality Check: Looks good and performs as you would want it too, RECOMMENDED.
