Thermaltake Frio CPU cooler

Well hello there.
I know the plastic shrouds and stuff around the fans have absolutely no bearing on the performance of the cooler, but they do kind of make it quite pleasing to look at. The white bladed fan gives a nice contrast to the black surrounding plastic.
The side of the cooler shows the fin density is quite tight on the Frio. The cooler comes with one fan pre-installed, but a second is included in the box for maximum performance, Iíll attach that and show you it in a bit. Both fans are mounted with noise and vibration dampening rubber clips, so although the fans might be noisy on full speed at least there wont be any rattle coming from the movement of the fans.
Here you can see the back bracket for attaching the second fan to the cooler. The 8mm heatpipes can be seen through the fins in a staggered arrangement for optimal cooling.
It serves no practical purpose, but the cooler has a nice shroud over the top of the fins, and little red raised accent strips down the sides. The splash of colour is pretty good, and if you happen to own ATI hardware, then itís a good matching colour scheme!
Taking the back shroud off of the cooler, rather interestingly the fins are not level, but are as you can see here slanted to one side. I donít think Iíve seen this done before, so maybe thermaltake are onto a performance improving technique here.
And hereís a shot of the cooler with the second fan installed on the back. With both fans attached, the coolerís weight goes beyond the 1042g, and itís a good job that the mounting system uses a backplate.
The cooler comes with mounting hardware for LGA775, LGA1156, LGA1366 and AMD AM2, AM3 and any sockets inbetween. Thermal paste and the rubber fan mounts for the second fan are included too.
The mounting hardware attaches like so. To install the cooler, it slots through the motherboard and backplate, and is secured on the reverse side of your motherboard via 4 bolts.
The finish on the frio isnít mirror quality, but it does is pretty flat, so weíll have to see how this cooler performs.
