To gain access in the inside of the DS210j, you have to first make sure the screws in the back are out (they are if this is a brand new unit), then slide the main white side forward away from the back. Once the moulding on the smaller side matches up with the ‘open’ location (on the sticker on the bottom), you can lift of the main side to open the NAS up.
Here are the insides of the DS210j.
The DS209 which is a bit older than the DS210j (and aimed more at business use) used flexible cables to connect to the drives (which will have been a bit fiddly) but the DS210j has a hassle free SATA back planes, so the drives just slide into place.
Once the drives are slotted in place, they can be secured using the supplied screws, and you’re ready to put the case back on. It’s worth pointing out that the DS210j doesn’t come with any drives, and you have to supply your own. I used two Western Digital 640GB drives for this review.
