The Super Talent PICO Gold is the sleekest and most stylish USB flash drive I have seen to date. The 24-carat gold plating really appealed to me as everyone loves a bit of gold in their life and the fact that Super Talent has covered one of there flash drives in this unique alloy really does make this unit even more desirable and fashionable at the same time. You could easily envision the USB attached to your clothing, Chain or bag without looking out of place as it really does look like a piece of jewellery.
To show you just how tiny this PICO Gold USB flash drive really is I’ve pictured the drive near a two pound coin for size reference but as you can see above the USB is much smaller so I did the same with a one pound coin which gives you a better idea of the size. The dimensions of the unit work out at 31.3mm x 12.4mm x 3.4mm which works out roughly about half the size of an SD card and because the device is encased in solid steel makes this flash drive the most robust and shock resistant small USB drives I have come across.
Another highlight that I found taking a closer look at the USB was how alike the unit reminded me of a gold bullion bar, only a lot smaller of course. Even though the Gold on the USB is only plated, you really are getting the highest in quality of 24-carat gold and I was really pleased to read that Super Talent used such a high grade alloy as if they had used a lesser gold of let’s say a 9-carat, the USB would have looked really yellow, Having said that though, 24 carat gold is softer than lower carat, so it may wear off quicker.
The attachments that came with the PICO Gold really worked well and they matched the device fantastically. Above I have attached the lanyard which you can place anywhere using the hook key at the end like; mobile phone, MP3 player, Handbag or to your jewellery and as the unit is extremely small and lightweight the device is super portable anywhere and everywhere you go. And that where the added feature of being shock and water resistant really does come into its own because these small devices do seem to take a bashing when attached to mobiles and bags when out and about, the solid steel housing is designed to take what life throws at it even when in harsh conditions.
So overall the PICO Gold has really pushed the right buttons so far, the size ranges are fantastic and the durability of the unit is brilliant for a device that is half the size of a SD card. The 24-carat gold plating is a unique look that won’t be right for everyone but suits both sexes and ages which makes it a winner in my opinion, so let’s move on to see how the drive performs in the speed tests.
