The motherboard tray was held in place by 6 screws located I the places above, these were easy to access and I had tem removed I minutes, Simple but effective.
Obviously the top section is for the Motherboard but if we flip it you could see the space for mounting the HDD. Looking at this closely I can see there would be enough space for 2 smaller HDD’s should you wish to drill a few holes in the mount.
The 60w Power source is located on the side of the case’s inside this comes with the power plug and 2 Molex on the wire. Although 60w is more than enogh for low powered Mini ITX boards if you wanted to build something that required more juice this can easily be replaced with the higher wattage 200w Power converters creeping on to the market.
The DVD rom bay design is well thought out and to save putting mounting brackets inside the case you screw it in fro the base underneath, also if you look near the opening near the front there is a metal plate below it on the left. This is connected to the button we see on the front of the case seen here.
As you can see as soon as you depress it pushes the plate back, to test its reach I decided to get my old 4xspeed pioneer DVDR out to tests its reach. The reason I chose this rom is it has an eject button further n than most and if the strip pushes that then it would work with most CD/DVD rom’s
Now that was a close fit even the tray was just about in line to still be able to eject. Also because of the positioning of the rom I would advise you just to stick the sticker on and put it in then attach the aluminum bezel to the roms tray.
As you can see the finished result is excellent and finishes of the case superb also if you really think about it you could fit a complete home entertainment system in here. Seriously think about it 1xdual pci slot mini ITX motherboard, 1x200 gig HDD, 1xDVDRW, 1x7.1 soundcard and a Digital TV/sat card and you have the lot a DVD recorder/player, digi box, HDTV, music centre, Dolby decoder you name it the functions could be put in there.
Silverstone is quite simply a name I would associate with style they are probably the only case manufacture I know tat have a case to sit everyone’s taste, don’t believe me visit here and see for your self and I promise there would be a case you like.
This case is excellent and I loved the device layout inside, the positioning of the hardware is spot on and well thought out. As I said earlier you wouldn’t have to spend extra on slim DVD ROMs and HDDs due to that fact. Most people would probably buy this case to set up a HTPC inside but me I have got other plans. I am going to do something special with this because the design deserves it. A excellent product deserves rewarding that’s why I have a 200w adaptor on the way and I am going to try and hunt down either a AGP or PCI-Express Mini ITX mobo and build one special mini PC that could be a performer, how can put it better than a wolf in sheep’s clothing. this watch this space
Well built and solid construction
Very small but spacious
Of coarse Silverstone usual brushed aluminum finish
