Barracuda 160GB Sata internal 7200rpm Hard Drive
With most computers now supporting Sata HDD’s what better than to test than one of the most respected models of HDD the Barracuda. The Barracuda name goes back a while, anyone that’s owned a few PC’s in there tie will know doubt have had a variation of the Barracuda at one time. Today we look at the latest in the Barracuda lineup and put it rough its paces. The package I am looking at today is the OEM version so please remember the retail package will slightly differ and include software and cables.
In the Box
Lets start with what’s in the box,
Removing the contents from the box it was nice to feel the plastic protective case under the antistatic bag. Seagate have been using this packaging for ages, In the days before fast internet access and portable hard drives I used to carry a HDD around I one of these and on more than one occasion dropped it and the HDD survived so although it’s minor its still gives the drive that added protection during transport.
After removing the HDD out of the case it was time to take a closer look at it.
The connections on the rear are what you would expect on a Sata HDD, with Data, Power and the factory jumper box (far right). The underneath was undamaged and the whole unit in pristine condition as expected.
There is not much else to say really on an internal drive as looks are not important, what is however is the Specs and performance of the drive and I know that’s what most of you are interested in.

I will not take up any more time with the device photos now and get straight to the point.
