200GB External Hard Drive with easy pushbutton backup solution

Today we are taking a look at Seagate’s offering in the high capacity sector of the external market.

The drive in question is dual purpose with both USB2 and firewire connections as well as offering push button backup. External HDD’s are a welcome addition to the market as it offers a easy storage upgrade for both novices who wouldn’t know how to install an internal and users that have no more space in their computer for another internal HDD.

In the Box

Lets start with what’s in the box,

Included in the box was

  • external drive

  • USB 2.0 cable

  • FireWire 1394a cable

  • AC adapter and power cord

  • quick installation guide

  • backup software CD

After removing the contents from the package I was glad to see everything in perfect condition, as well as the HDD still packed in anti static bag. I know it’s not much but I remember the days when 15 gig was massive and Seagate were the only manufacture shipping well packed drives even to this day oem internal drives are still packed I a protective plastic case. Anyway let’s get back to the harddrive in question.

Removing the HDD from the antistatic bag I was surprised to find such an unusual design compared to a few over external kit’s I have seen, but I like its strange look. Looking at the rear connection panel (bottom left) you will notice the connections available, here take a closer look.

The connections o the rear panel includes USB2, 2x firewire (more on this later) and the power switch. Also on the rear is the Serial No and part number sticker. The other accessory included in the package was an upright stand for the HDD, this was easy to fit and was done in a few seconds.

As you can see the upright position was nice looking and practical if you have hardly any space on your desk, I don’t know but it might sound strange but the design of the casing sort of I don’t know in a weird way gave it a either a elegant look or a move over hooligan coming type of appearance. (Laughing at self) that wasn't a practical way to say it looks nice but beefy wasn’t it. You can also see the 2xLED’s on either side of the backup button, one is power the other is HDD.
