Nexus Value 430 Watt (Eco) PSU

The Nexus Value 430 is quite a performer and seems to pack a punch well above its weight so to speak. I was a little surprised if I am totally honest as to how well it seems to perform in a mid range system. The 12v rails are rated at 2 amps per 12v rail ABOVE those on the 600w power supply I removed from my PC. Powerful 12v rails are needed these days from a power supply so the Nexus Value 430 is right on the ball on that front. Also as it comes with dual pci express power connectors it MAY be able to power a graphics card that requires them, but personally I wouldn’t want to push my luck too far on that front, it is after all “only” rated at a total power of 430watts.

The big 12v rails do come at a cost though, the 3.3v and 5v rails are quite a bit lower than those on the power supply it replaced (12 amps and 6 amps lower respectively to be precise) but then comparing it to its competition of a similar rating its right on a par on the power rating of the 3.3v and 5v rails. In use it is indeed silent, I certainly can’t hear it above the rest of the components in my media pc anyway, and it’s a quiet but not totally silent pc.

To be honest I really cannot think of one bad thing about the Nexus Value 430 power supply. It may not have a shiny finish or come in a flashy retail box but then Nexus never wanted it too for environmental reasons. So if you want flash look elsewhere. If you want an excellent performing mid range power supply then this is most definitely the power supply for you.

I was a little surprised to be informed by our contact at Nexus that the rrp of the Nexus Value 430 was €73.00 (incl. VAT). I had assumed “Value” meant lower price due to the trimmings being trimmed. I know Nexus power supplies don’t come cheap, quality never does, but the £60+ price tag might be a bitter pill for some to swallow for a “Value” power supply. But If you want one of the quitest PSU’s on the market well?

Pros

  • Very very Quiet.
  • Well built.
  • Efficient.
  • Powerful enough for all but the most powerful spec pc’s.
  • Cables sleeved from psu to last connector.

Cons

  • Expensive for a “Value” power supply.
  • Not the prettiest of power supplies (but then it never pretended to be).
  • Mains lead not included.

Reality Check: The Nexus Value 430 power supply simply does what it says on the tin…..err box... If you want a good mid range psu that is very quiet and don’t mind the lack of bling or the price then the Nexus Value 430 power supply is most definitely for you. Recommended, but look about at prices first.
