Installing this powersupply is a complete pleasure. The modular cables are good lengths and the sheathing, while a bit stiffer than standard cables, looks great no matter how you wire it. It doesn’t loop up and get messy. Just have a look at the difference from the old powersupply with green sheathing to the XG Magnum. It is just a pity I don’t have any UV lights to show the effect.
The fit at the back was very tight – some cases may not fit this PSU through the back – it would be a good idea to check the dimensions before you purchase. The fact that it sticks out shouldn’t be a problem for most people, as the power cord sticks out about the same amount, however if you use a 90º power cord, you might want to take some measurements too.
Also at the back is the LCD, which shows you current wattage used, temperature and the value on the 12V rail. A great set of values to know, but it’s a pity you need to look at the back. I guess if you have a windowed case (which would be understandable with the UV cables) you might have the side facing you, and so the back would be just as accessible as the front, however for a lot of people, this LCD will not really be visible most of the time. An unfortunate limitation of the PSU placement really.
The other feature of the PSU which becomes visible when powered is the LEDs inside. They show usage of the different voltage rails. As you can see here, most are in use with the computer just idle.
