The idea of an Express card SSD is to provide fast storage, with low power consumption and when compared to a USB drive it does do this while still maintaining a good level of performance, yes USB is faster and overall better, but in my tests it proved to be more power hungry. This is what counts in the mobile computing world, and those that use their lappys away from the socket know what I am on about. A good example is I could put 2 gig of ram in my lappy, itís sitting in the box in my draw at home as I type, so why donít I put it in?
Well itís quite simple, with 2 gig of ram my laptop lasts 20 Ė 30 minutes less on the battery, depending on what I am doing, this for me is an important factor, and this is were the Lexar Express card SSD wins it for me. This is something I would use instead of USB to carry around my work, as I would be happy enough to use why out and about on the battery.
- Small and Easy
- Excellent low power consumption
- Ideal for people on the move
- Lifetime warranty
- Could have been made to fit card slot flush.
- Not as fast as I hoped
Reality Check: While I expected faster speeds from this drive, I am not at all disappointed with the Lexar ExpressCard SSD 8 Gig, because in the world of laptops power consumption is king and the Lexar is a little Gem in that department.
