In Win AMMO 2.5 RFID USB enclosure

Opening the box we get our first look at the In Win Ammo. The actual caddy looks well protected tucked in a cardboard cut out within the box and separated from all the other parts. Removing the Ammo and other accessories we can have a closer look at them, I’ll start with the accessories and come to the Ammo later on.

In the box we have the following items, a dog tag, this is your main RFID key. A red key ring RFID tag, as yet I don’t know what this is for but I suspect it is used for enabling / setting up the RFID or possibly just a spare RFID key. We also have a screw driver, very handy if you don’t happen to have a small screwdriver for undoing those inevitable small screws the Ammo is assembled with and finally a USB cable, very useful for connecting the Ammo to your PC ;~).

Also included is the instruction manual, this comes in numerous languages and has a large section in the middle with numbered pictorial instructions.

The reverse side of the instruction sheet carries a nice little “extra” if you like, a target similar to those used in target ranges, so once you have finished putting your Ammo together, if you want to, you can stick it up on your wall.

Ok, onto the Ammo. First impressions are it feels quite heavy for a laptop caddy, this is I guess down to the heavier grade metal used / larger dimensions, most laptop drive caddies I have looked at are normally only just bigger than the actual hard drives. The Ammo is painted matt black and is shaped to resemble a cartridge case from some, possibly automatic, rifle, i.e. AK47, which it does.

Stamped into the top is RFID SECURITY next to the transmitter / receiver and 2.5” SATA HDD ENCLOSURE. I guess this is to avoid any confusion should you be found in possession of it?

The front of the Ammo has a rubberised panel in it which carries the In Win logo, a nice touch, much better than a plain panel anyway.

Onto the rear of the Ammo and tucked away behind a rubber flap are the, optional, 5v power connector and the mini USB connector. As I haven’t seen any kind of activity led the small hole to the right of the connectors could well be the hard drive activity indicator, I guess I will soon find out. There's not really anything else worth looking at so I’ll get a drive fitted and test it.
