FreeCom DVD+/-RW 16x Double Layer
Today we are taking a look at Freecom’s offering into the DVD Dual layer DVD-/+RW writer market. Now for those of you that don’t already know about dual layer the simplest way to explain it is simply that dual layer burners can burn 2 layers onto special dual layer disks thus resulting in twice the space on the disk, see its pretty simple if put like that.
As you can see the device comes in a well packaged design and has all the required info including the specs on the back as well as the supported writing speeds on the front. The information on the box was clear and easy to understand and you won’t need a magnifying glass to read any of the content.
In the box
After opening the box and removing the accessory box I thought it better we take a look at the contents before moving on to the writer it self. Included in the accessory box was a Software cd with Roxio, a DVD+RW 8xSpeed disk, IDE cable, sound cable, screws and a manual. All of the items were I perfect condition and had no damage… Moving on the main unit…
The Writer itself was well packed as well with only slight movement in the box. After close inspection I found no marks or damage on the writer so the slight movement shouldn’t affect the writer at all.
looking at the front bezel you can see the layout is quite simple and is exactly how it should be, although you can see the panel cut on the bezel which shows that the casing is used on all there drives (although I should point out that I didn’t notice it during the 30 days I had this in my machine).
Moving round to the rear we find the unit has the expected connections which include spdif, audio, IDE and of coarse power as well as the jumper selection.
