Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC2-8500 (1066 MHz)

The Crucial Ballistix Tracer 1066 MHz Tracers (PC2 8500) do exactly what they say they do and a little bit more, when compared to the Dominators the only thing that was a let down was the overclock, having said that though with them performing on par at the rated speed I could easily pick these over the Dominators with their fancy lighting and such. But if I wanted ram that I could take past 1066 with some tweaks well an extra 10 MHz won’t cut it.

Don’t get me wrong the Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC2 8500 set performs at 1066 and yes if I wanted the light effect I would go for these straight away and if your not planning to push the ram above the 1066 margin won’t overlook these modules, and must have lights then they are perfect, But don’t expect to be able to push them that far above the 1066 MHz rating.

Also on a plus note for some 975X owners, don’t forget this is only the second set of ram (super talent 8000 kit is only other) that has managed to hit the 1000 MHz mark on our 975X platforms. Were the Dominators can not?  Still worthy of a gold award.

Pros
• Excellent performance,
• Crucial Warranty
• Completely priced 5,5,5,15 kits
• Worked at 1002 MHz in our 975X boards
• Bling lighting (if that’s what you are after)

Cons
• Err bland packaging
• Not much Overclocking headroom
