The Crucial RealSSD C300 128GB provides high-end performance at an almost affordable price. When compared to last year’s daddy of SSDs (the Patriot Torqx 128GB), we can see how far SSD technology has come along – the Crucial consistently beats the Patriot in all read-based tests, and again in most write-based tests.
If you would like a drive with higher write-speeds, look at the 256GB version of this drive – it offers an extra 70MB/s write (totalling around 210MB/s) which should ensure it beats almost every drive on the market.
However, personally, I don’t think write speeds need to be sought after in the same way that read speeds are – beyond 70MB/s, I don’t believe the average user will notice the difference, however when it comes to read speeds, I think that most users will notice increased read speed, which is why I would recommend the Crucial RealSSD C300 128GB to all and any users.
Whilst I have a very good opinion of the Crucial RealSSD C300 128GB itself, the O/S transfer kit that accompanies the SSD is another story – personally I found it only to be a nuisance! I think if it worked first time (and out of the box) then I could have given it some credit, however Crucial have assured me this has been fixed with an update which is available now.
I would say though that the included SATA->USB converter is of high quality, and could be quite useful – even for just using unused/old laptop hard drives as external drives – for backup or data storage.
- Consistently quick
- Reasonably priced (compared to other high-performers on the marketplace)
- Good firmware support
- Good online community
- 3 year warranty
- Meets Crucials high-performance claimed speeds
- Will require a Sata 3 (6GB/s) port or adapter to achieve full performance
Reality Check: If you’re building a money-no-object PC, or just wish to speed up your boot times, the Crucial RealSSD C300 128GB is a brilliant SSD to add to the shopping basket. Just make sure you’ve got a 6GB/s SATA port to make the most of this drives speeds.
