Xebec Tech iTouchPad Diamond Keyboard

Physical Layout Part 1

Xebec Tech have used a hardened shiny plastic that covers the entire keyboard which makes for an easy cleanable surface and the white colouring doesn’t show off all your finger prints as much as the black and silver versions would do.

Xebec Tech have constructed the face of the itouchpad diamond out of one piece of plastic, this has been rounded at each end so that the body of the keyboard has a seamless shape to it. A reasonable amount of wrist rest has been added to the keyboard which slopes down into the body shape so you have no rigid corners to the frame work of the itouchpad diamond, very corner has been bent it a certain way which gives it a really great low profile.

To the rear of the itouchpad diamond Xebec Tech have used a black colour here, still in the same shiny effect to match the face of the keyboard. Black is a much harder wearing colour scheme to go with as any other colour would become dull after a while of use. Xebec Tech has kept things really smooth here so when held or on your lap, the keyboard sits really comfortable and can be slid into position with ease.

In each corner of the itouchpad diamond there are rubberized feet so that the keyboard doesn’t move while using it but i would have liked to see some rubber added to the tilt-feet also for extra non-slip.

Xebec Tech have housed the USB Nano dongle receiver in the left hand corner of the itouchpad diamond and also the battery compartment, each housing has been cut into the hardened plastic so that they look like part of the keyboard and don’t hinder you in any way while using the device. The Nano dongle receiver slides onto a plastic section which locks the dongle in position so no fear of the receiver falling out when in place and handy to have when you not using the device, you can safely store the dongle into the frame of the itouchpad.

The On/Off flick switch has also been located just along here which has a textile feel when flicked from one position to the other, just a simple design that does the job well.

Xebec Tech have incorporated Soft Touch Membrane technology into the itouchpad diamond which gives you a silent strokes across the low profile keyboard keys that gives a tactile feel when being pressed. With claims of approx; 5 million strokes per key which would suit fine for any Digital Living Rooms HTPC environment, conference or presentation etc.

Underneath the keyboard Xebec Tech have positioned the Touchpad, just off centre. This Touchpad is your alternative mouse for when you’re sitting on the sofa or on a conference and it is also equipped with two integrated mouse function keys which allows you to; click, double click, What this eliminates is the need for a mouse which cuts size and space needed down, which of course is not a bad thing.

To the front of the itouchpad diamond is where Xebec Tech have located the USB re-charging port, this has two functions; the first being able to re-charge the keyboard and the second being able to use the itouchpad as a wired USB keyboard as well. The USB port has been positioned so that it isn’t protruding out from the frame work so that you don’t really notice it’s there.
